Cooperativa Luppoli Italiani

Hop growing importance

Cooperativa Luppoli Italiani has been incorporated on July 30th, 2018 by a group of farms operating in Ravenna area with the aim to be a fully Italian operator engaged in growing, processing and marketing of hops exclusively farmed in Italy. Our cooperative constantly operates all along a fully controlled supply chain, supplying traceable raw materials to several Italian and foreigner craft breweries.

Our goal is to be a pivotal player in farming, processing and marketing of several hop varieties grown in Romagna region, focusing on quality and growing and process sustainability.

Hop Varieties

Above all… the Raw Material

Following farming trials developed by Cooperativa Terremerse, Bagnacavallo Ravenna, our Cooperative associated farmers have planted 4 different American hop varieties which have been proved to be specifically suitable to our climate conditions.

Hop, harvested in September and October, is proposed on the market in form of fresh or dried cones, pellet (T45 and T90, processed in Italy by an associated company) or as Spring sprouts. Our main market sectors are craft and breweries, brew pubs, herbalist’s shops (as ingredient for physiotherapy preparations) or restaurants that use our hops in their seasonal recipes or special menu. We sell our products both directly to end users and to distributors.

Why is our hop so special

Hop as you’ve never seen before

Did you know that hop is the sole beer ingredient which is almost totally imported?

It is estimated that the Italian yearly requirement is over 3500 tons and that 98% of this is imported from Germany, Poland, Check Republic, Slovenia and USA.

We are in Ravenna, 17 km from the sea and each and every afternoon a gentle wind dries hop leaves and cones, giving them the unique scent of Romagna

Low environmental impact

Utilization of recyclable materials in the hop plant, rationale water management (drip irrigation) “closed sustainable cycle” trough the process scraps as fertilizers

The partners

The farmers associated

Cooperativa Luppoli Italiani associates several farms; each one is represented at Board level by a Director who represents it also towards the external. This collaborative approach, by which we are able to share any decision, responsibilities and commitment represent our major strength.
